The Alarm - Strength (1985)

The Alarm are an alternative rock/New Wave band that emerged from North Wales in the late 1970s.
They started as a mod band and stayed together for over ten years. As a rock band, they displayed marked influences from Welsh language and culture.
By opening for acts such as U2 and Bob Dylan, they became a popular alternative rock band of the 1980s, retaining a small but loyal following to the present day.
"Strength" is the second studio album from The Alarm. It was released in 1985 on IRS Records.
It's a shame that the Alarm always seemed to be in U2's shadow in the US music press; it's an unfair comparison. The Alarm were a more upfront, emotional band.
The sessions for the Strength album stretch from November of 1984 to July of 1985, and it is interesting to hear how these songs slowly evolved. Featuring a typically sharp guitar attack and an energetic vocal from Peters, "Strength" certainly inspired an impressive number of college students during the mid-'80s to consider their conscience and spirituality. Nobody's saying that got them to church, but at least this particular Alarm lacked a snooze button to help them miss yet another class.
"Stength" is the Album that Broke the Alarm around the World. Featuring Three Hit Singles, "Strength", "Knife Edge" and the Classic "Spirit Of '76".
