Bijna vijftig jaar na de oorspronkelijke release vieren The Rolling Stones hun legendarische album Black and Blue (1976) met een indrukwekkende Super Deluxe Box Set, die wereldwijd verschijnt op 14 november 2025 via Interscope/UMe.

Het album, bekend om zijn mix van rock, funk, soul en reggae, bevat klassiekers als Hot Stuff, Memory Motel en de ballad Fool to Cry. 

Black and Blue was bovendien het eerste album waarop Ronnie Wood zijn intrede deed als officieel bandlid.

Blue & Lonesome is a covers album by the Rolling Stones—their 23rd British and 25th American studio album—released on 2 December 2016.

 Despite the short time length of just around 43 minutes, the album was released as a double LP. "Just Your Fool", a Buddy Johnson cover (though the Rolling Stones version is based on Little Walter's arrangement) was released as the first single from the album. Eric Clapton contributed guitar on two tracks.

This is the first album since Dirty Work (1986) to not feature any guitar playing from Jagger (who instead concentrates completely on vocals and harmonica), although he is pictured in the album's booklet playing guitar during the album's sessions. It is also the first album since It's Only Rock 'n Roll (1974) to not feature a lead vocal from Richards. Likewise, it is also the first album since Dirty Work to release a lead single that was not a Jagger/Richards composition with "Just Your Fool".

As Keith Richards tells it, the Rolling Stones' first-ever all-blues album is the result of the band learning how to play in the unfamiliar surroundings of Mark Knopfler's British Grove Studios.
To ease into the new place, the Stones decided to knock out a version of Little Walter's "Blue and Lonesome" and it sounded good enough that the band decided to cut a few more covers, winding up with a full album of Chicago blues in a few days. The Stones haven't worked at such swift speed in decades -- not since the early '60s, when they were churning out two albums a year -- and much of the appeal of Blue & Lonesome lies in its casualness: by being tossed off, the album highlights how the Stones play together as a band, blending instinct and skill.

Blue & Lonesome isn't a showcase for virtuoso playing -- even Eric Clapton's two smoldering solos are part of the tapestry -- but rather a groove record, emphasizing feel and interplay while never losing sight of the song. Such commitment to song is one of the reasons Blue & Lonesome winds up as an unexpected triumph from Mick Jagger.
A blues album from the Stones always seemed like a dream project for Keith Richards, who always championed the band's blues roots, but it's Jagger who dominates the album, playing searing harp and singing with nuance and power. Always a guarded performer -- back in 1974, he scoffed at the notion of letting his feelings flood on the page -- Jagger seems freed, pouring heart into the slow burners and uptempo shuffles alike. The rest of the Stones match his commitment and that's what makes Blue & Lonesome something remarkable.

Conceptually, it's clever -- if this winds up being the last Rolling Stones album, it provides a nice bookend to their 1964 debut -- but it's artistically satisfying because it's the Rolling Stones allowing themselves to simply lay back and play for sheer enjoyment. It's a rare thing that will likely seem all the more valuable over the years.

The Rolling Stones - Some Girls: Live In Texas '78 (2011)

Some Girls: Live in Texas '78 is a live concert film by The Rolling Stones released in 2011. It was filmed in 16 mm during the US Tour 1978. This live performance was recorded and filmed during one show at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth, Texas 18 July 1978 during their US Tour 1978 in support of their album Some Girls. The concert film was released on DVD/Blu-ray Disc, Combo (DVD & CD set) and (Blu-ray Disc & CD set) on 15 November 2011. The CD was exclusive to the combo sets, and was not released individually.
Hidden away in the archives for 33 years, this record of the Stones' "Some Girls in Texas" concert is an absolute gem. Playing with a sense of conviction, power, and recklessness that essentially captures the mood of the just released "Some Girls" album, the band is in fine form. Mick's vocals are strong, Keith and relative newcomer Ronnie Wood are in their prime, and Charlie Watts demonstrates once again why he may be the most underrated drummer in rock. Listening to Bill Wyman play bass confirms what I've felt for some time now...the bass lines simply don't sound the same since Daryl Jones took his spot. Bill is unassuming as ever yet his contribution to the Stones' signature sound cannot be overlooked or dismissed.
In contrast to recent Stones' tours, there's plenty of interaction between the band members...particularly Mick and Ronnie...and the stripped-down 1978 edition means a lot of shared-mike vocals with Mick, Keith, and Ronnie occasionally trying to outdo one another. The boys are clearly enjoying themselves yet I couldn't help but get the feeling they were genuinely committed to delivering a great performance.
Ronnie's playing deserves special mention here since we hardly see him cut loose with as many solos anymore. For whatever reason, and there are plenty that come to mind, Mick and Keith seem to keep him under wraps these days and it's a real shame. His style is totally different from Mick Taylor's but Ronnie's lead work on the 1975 and 1978 Tours stand on their own merit.
Plenty of variety here...a couple of Chuck Berry covers, some well-known Stones' classics, eight cuts from the "Some Girls" release, which encompasses quite a few musical genres on its' own...the concert is fast, furious, and in-your-face. I'm looking forward to picking up the DVD when it becomes available when I'll be the one to decide just how loud it should be played!

The Rolling Stones - Love You Live (2CD) (1977)

"Love You Live" is a double live album by The Rolling Stones, released in 1977. The album is drawn from Tour of the Americas shows in the United States in the summer of 1975, Tour of Europe shows in 1976 and performances from the infamous El Mocambo nightclub concert venue in Toronto in 1977. It is the band's third official full-length live release and is dedicated to the memory of audio engineer Keith Harwood, who died in a drug-induced car accident shortly before the album's release.
This set has all the songs you want to hear in a Stones concert, like "Honky Tonk Women," "You Can't Always Get What You Want," and "Tumbling Dice." Disk Two begins with Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, etc. stuff, like "Around and Around" and "Little Red Rooster." The sound quality and performance are a bit spotty, but they certainly are not on the last four songs: "It's Only Rock 'N Roll," "Brown Sugar," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Sympathy for the Devil." What better choices to end a Stones concert can there be! The middle two are the Stones' best rockers ever, in my view, and all four give the band opportunities to open up. This was LP side four in college, and always the choice in parties and car stereos. The soloing is terrific, again, fast paced, and the band is ever so tight, everything clicking perfectly. Keith Richards and Ron Wood are fabulous on guitar, and there are blistering leads on the last three of the four songs. Billy Preston shines on keyboards. "Love You Live" is great live Stones for sure.
