Van Halen - Covers Band From Pasadena Live 1976 (Bootleg)

Van Halen is a Grammy Award-winning American hard rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972.

The Van Halen brothers formed their very first band, called The Broken Combs, in 1964. As they progressed and gained popularity, they started to play many backyard parties and changed the name of their band to The Trojan Rubber Co.
In 1972, the Van Halen brothers formed a band called Genesis featuring Eddie as lead vocalist/guitarist, Alex on drums, and Mark Stone on bass.
They initially rented a sound system from David Lee Roth but decided to save money by letting him join as lead vocalist even though his previous audition(s) had been unsuccessful. By 1974, the band decided to replace Stone, so Michael Anthony, bassist and lead vocalist from local band Snake was auditioned. Following an all-night jam session, he was hired for bass and backing vocals.

The band later changed its name to Mammoth when they discovered the name Genesis was already being used. In 1974, Mammoth officially changed its name to Van Halen. According to Roth, this was his brainchild. He felt it was a name that had power, like Santana.

They played backyard parties and on a flatbed truck at Hamilton Park. Van Halen played clubs in Pasadena and Hollywood to growing audiences, increasing their popularity through self-promotion: before each gig they would pass out flyers at local high schools. This sort of self-promotion soon built them a major following.
Later that year, the band got its first break when it was hired to play at Gazzarri's, a formerly famous but down-at-the-heels night club on the Sunset Strip which closed in 1996.

Earlier, they had auditioned for the owner, Bill Gazzarri, but he claimed they were "too loud" and would not hire them. However, their new managers, Mark Algorri and Mario Miranda, who had coincidentally taken over Gazzarri's hiring, did the deal. Shortly afterwards, they recorded their first demo tape at the now-defunct Cherokee Studios in Northridge where Steely Dan recently had completed an album.
Van Halen became a staple of the Los Angeles music scene during the mid-1970s, playing at well-known clubs like the Whisky a Go Go.

Jim Croce - The Studio Album Collection (2015) [7 CD Box Set, Ltd. Edition]

Limited seven CD box set spanning the entire career of singer/songwriter Jim Croce and featuring all the studio recorded albums as well as a bonus disc of demo recordings.
Croce's untimely death in an aeroplane crash (in September 1973, at just the age of 30 years old) came at a point in his career when he seemed set for a lengthy and rewarding career.
This box is the first time all the studio albums have ever been brought together in a single package, from the self-released debut Facets, recorded and released for just $500 - a wedding gift from Jim's parents - to "I Got a Name," which was released posthumously after his death whilst on tour promoting the previous album.
Discs Two and Three are collaborations with his wife Ingrid, and Discs Four, Five and Six were are recorded for and released by ABC Records.
The final bonus disc of this set features demo recordings including those which when presented to ABC Records secured the deal for the albums.
The booklet which is the eight piece in this set, includes the lyrics and comprehensive 5000 word note by Alan Robinson.
Sound quality is excellent, including on the early stuff that only more serious fans have heard. The tremendous talent is obvious in Jim's hit songs we all know and love from the 70s, but you may be surprised at how much you like the earlier albums with Ingrid.
The producers of those earlier albums didn't do Jim and Ing any favors (I'll charitably say the production values are mediocre), but the quality of the performances shines through nonetheless.
In the music industry, arguably the worst tragedy that can befall an artist is to die in his or her prime, when just beginning to break through to the mainstream and reach people on a national or international level. One such artist was Jim Croce, a songwriter with a knack for both upbeat, catchy singles and empathetic, melancholy ballads.
Though Croce only recorded a few studio albums before an untimely plane crash, he continues to be remembered posthumously.
Croce appealed to fans as a common man, and it was not a gimmick -- he was a father and husband who went through a series of blue-collar jobs. And whether he used dry wit, gentle emotions, or sorrow, Croce sang with a rare form of honesty and power. Few artists have ever been able to pull off such down-to-earth storytelling as convincingly as he did.

Fantasy Records presents the Academy and GRAMMY® Award-nominated score from the 1975 hit film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Composed by the prolific Jack Nitzsche (Phil Spector, the Rolling Stones, Neil Young), the score has long been praised for its edgy and effective nature (including the instrumental use of a saw for the opening and closing themes).

A film that helped to cement Jack Nicholson's reputation as an actor willing to take roles on the bleeding edge, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was also notable for giving director Milos Forman a solid position in American cinema...and for giving composer Jack Nitzsche a place to show what he could do.

As it is, the edgy nature of the film extends into the score, giving it a profoundly disturbing feel at times -- even when it appears to be relatively normal.

The music has a tendency to always be a little off-kilter, and from time to time it tilts completely over into a strange little world of its own (something very familiar to fans of Van Dyke Parks, with whom Nitzsche worked quite a bit).

It's a pity that this score has faded from sight over the time since its 1991 remastering; the music has certainly continued to stand up well over time.

Anthony Patrick Hadley (born 2 June 1960) is an English singer-songwriter, occasional stage actor and radio presenter. He rose to fame in the 1980s as the lead singer of the New Romantic band Spandau Ballet before launching a solo career following the group's split in 1990.

After Spandau Ballet disbanded, Hadley pursued a solo career, signing to EMI and recording his first album, The State of Play, in 1992. After leaving EMI, Hadley formed his own record company, SlipStream Records, and his first release was the single "Build Me Up", from the film When Saturday Comes. Shortly after that, in December 1996, Hadley embarked on an orchestral tour of Europe, along with Joe CockerPaul MichielsDani Klein and Guo Yue, playing to 500,000 concertgoers in six weeks. 
On his return from that tour, Hadley signed a joint deal with PolyGram TV, and released his nexteponymous solo albumTony Hadley, in 1997, which included covers and songs that were chosen to match his voice. The album also featured some of his own self-penned songs, such as "She", which he wrote for daughter Toni.

The Prodigy - Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004)

The Prodigy's main man, Liam Howlett, said in an interview that usual bandmembers Keith Flint and Maxim weren't on the new album because this is a back-to-the-core record, one to find the soul of the Prodigy (dancer Leeroy Thornhill left the band years ago -- losing your dancer, always crippling). For anyone rooting for the band, it sounded like a good deal. Howlett came off as a mad beat scientist of great genius on his goin'-it-alone CD The Dirtchamber Sessions, Vol. 1, rockin' the beats with mad style and blowing the dust off Babe Ruth's "The Mexican" just to prove how he was cooler than you. It was a sweet mix, but then nothing -- and then it got worse. But at least Howlett himself called 2002's dull "Baby's Got a Temper" single an F'n piece of S. Seems like he was well aware things were going wrong and has gotten himself back on the right track, so let's all go nuts for Prodigy again. 
Twiddling the knobs and making noises fly every which way, Howlett is working hard throughout Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned and with clean, punch-in-the-gut bass like this, there isn't a better record to sell those gigantic, "you'll have to take your backseat out" kickboxes. But take someone who just barely follows electronic music, tell him or her this is an everyday KMFDM record, and they'll fall for it. Nothing against KMFDM
They've got their rightfully sleazy place, but this is the Prodigy and Always Outnumbered is just loud workout music for the jilted generation. Lyrics? Try "Gimme! gimme! gimme!" and "You got to push it!" Not that "Change my picture/Smack my bitch up" was brilliant, but it was incongruous enough to have you going, "why do I keep singing this?" There's an inspired list of guest stars on this album -- Princess SuperstarKool KeithLiam GallagherTwistaJuliette Lewis -- but either their voices are so filtered it could be anyone or they're given nothing more to do than yell "go, man, go." Howlett had been all "I've got something to prove with this" in the press, but very little of that spirit comes through on the album. 
"Girls" is a good electro roller and steps ahead of "Baby's Got a Temper," while the surprisingly different and slinky "Phoenix" is proof Howlett hasn't totally lost it. Plus, you're bound to fall for at least one of the generic fist-pumpers. 
They do have that whipping sting in the tail of which Howlett is the master. That's barely enough for five years of waiting and hardly up to the old standard. That Always Outnumbered is no good reason for teens to put the Playstation controller down and rejoin the mainstream techno revolution is disappointing. As crazy as those glowstick kids could be, Prodigy concerts should have more than boring old farts who don't dance standing around. 
There's little of that rebellious and over-the-top excitement here, and that's bad news for those on the fringe of Prodigy fandom.
