California Breed was an English-American hard rock band based in Los Angeles, California.
Formed in 2013, the band was a supergroup composed of bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes, guitarist Andrew Watt, and drummer Jason Bonham.
Following the breakup of his previous band Black Country Communion, Hughes was introduced to Watt in 2013 and the two quickly formed California Breed, with Black Country Communion drummer Bonham completing the lineup shortly after. The band recorded its self-titled debut album with producer Dave Cobb in late 2013, which was released through Frontiers Records in May 2014 and reached number 78 on the US Billboard 200.
California Breed is their only studio album, produced by Dave Cobb, the album was released in May 2014 through Frontiers Records.
Black Country Communion split in 2013 after only four years, in part because of guitarist Joe Bonamassa‘s tight schedule and the demanding commitments of his solo career. Vocalist and bassist Glenn Hughes and drummer Jason Bonham decided they had too much of a good thing and founded California Breed with 23-year-old guitarist/vocalist Andrew Watt.
Produced by Dave Cobb, the material is, as expected, blues-based hard rock, and its sound draws on inspirations from Led Zeppelin (check Watt‘s inversion of the “Heartbreaker” riff in opener “The Way”), AC/DC (“Sweet Tea”), early Whitesnake (“Midnight Oil”), and even Alice in Chains (“The Grey”), but California Breed combine and recombine styles in a manner that is consistently their own. While Bonham‘s drums are as dominant as Hughes‘ voice, the interplay between the latter’s basslines and Watt‘s wide-ranging guitar technique is a true highlight.
He plays loads of solos on the set, but they are short and focused, and unabashedly reveal his influences from Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Jimi Hendrix, and Jerry Cantrell, but precision and fluidity come down the line from Jeff Beck (check “Invisible” and “Scars”).
Fans of hard rock may justifiably lament the loss of Country Black Communion, but the blues-based squall of California Breed from their self-titled debut is no small consolation.

The Common Linnets are a Dutch band that was formed in 2013. The band originally consisted of friends Ilse DeLange and Waylon.
DeLange has stated that the group is a platform for Dutch artists to make country, Americana, or bluegrass music and that the members will be changing. In May 2014, Waylon left the group and was replaced by American country singer Jake Etheridge.
Their song "Calm After the Storm", which is on their self-titled debut album, reached second place in the final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest and gave the Netherlands their best result since their last winning entry in 1975. The song became a hit throughout Europe.
The Common Linnets is the self-titled debut studio album by Dutch band The Common Linnets.
The album received generally positive reviews from music critics. NU.nl gave the album a positive review stating, "At the turning of the tide, the duo finished their first (and possibly only) album. On their self-titled record, the two musicians explore their love of country and folk further than they have done previously, often successfully.
This is thanks to the collaboration with Daniel Lohues, JB Meijers and musicians from Nashville. Especially lovers of World Of Hurt, the highly successful debut of DeLange, will be pleased with traditional country songs like Still Loving After You, Hungry Hands, Sun Song and Broken But Home. The quiver in DeLange's voice has returned and mixes well with Waylon's timbre. With Time Has No Mercy, Arms Of Salvation and Lovers & Liars, the duo delivers upbeat songs, while Before Complete Surrender, sounding like a Carpenters song, shows a more sensitive side, as well as the Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash inspired Where Do I Go With Me, and DeLange's tribute to her father, Love Goes On.
The soulful edge of Waylon's voice is rarely heard on this album, but it can be heard on the western song When Love Was King. Perhaps the two have to consider whether there is more future for The Common Linnets, because this is the best album in years for both artists." De Volkskrant also gave the album a positive review, stating, "The duo's success at the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday isn't the only proof that their formation was a masterstroke. Even though Calm After the Storm is without a doubt one of the most beautiful songs on their debut album, titled The Common Linnets, the duo show that they can produce a lot more gems.
However, none of them share the aforementioned song's atmosphere, reminiscent of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Instead, traditional country and other americana styles prevail on this surprisingly strong album. On Still Loving After You, written with Daniel Lohues, Ilse DeLange sings again with a broken country heart, which she has showcased on too few occasions. And on Where Do I Go With Me, Waylon shows how well versed he is in the repertoire of George Jones.
With the help of Lohues and JB Meijers (producer and composer), both Waylon and DeLange have been able to outdo themselves on this beautiful country album. It leaves us wanting more."

Eric Clapton - I Still Do (2016)

I Still Do his twentieth studio album, by Eric Clapton released through the independent Bushbranch Records/Surfdog Records label.
The album is a combination of new material written by Clapton and classic songs, contemporary tunes and influences interpreted in his own style.
The album was produced by Glyn Johns, who had been producer on Clapton's successful albums Slowhand (1977) and Backless (1978).
The album cover consists of a portrait of Clapton by Peter Blake who had previously designed multiple pages of artwork for Clapton's 1991 album 24 Nights as well as a photo book, containing all of his drawings of Clapton, his band and the Royal Albert Hall in which the album was recorded from 1990 to 1991.
Such mellowed good vibes are the calling card of I Still Do, which otherwise proceeds along the same path Clapton's records follow in the 21st century: he blends covers of well-worn blues standards with a couple of J.J. Cale tunes, a few old pop standards, a Bob Dylan chestnut, and original songs that draw upon aspects of all of these.
"Spiral" and "Catch the Blues," the two EC originals that anchor the middle of the album, are handsomely crafted tunes that complement the rest of the record; they don't draw attention to themselves but rather show how hard "Cypress Grove" swings and how "Alabama Woman Blues" crawls, and reveal the lightness of "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine" and "Little Man, You've Had a Busy Day."
Although "I'll Be Seeing You" ends I Still Do on a bit of a wistful note, this album is neither melancholy nor some kind of summation. It is simply Clapton being Clapton, enjoying the company of his longtime band and songs he's loved, and here he's fortunate enough to be produced by Johns, whose expert touch gives this weight and color absent from the otherwise amiable Old Sock.
That's enough to give I Still Do some resonance because Johns focuses not on the songs but the interplay: it's not a vibe record so much as it's an album about the interplay of old pros who still get a kick playing those same old changes years after they've become second nature.

Case Mayfield - Another Glorious Battle For The Kingdom (2014)

De eigenzinnige Case Mayfield (artiestennaam van de in Volendam geboren Kees Veerman) heeft met derde langspeler Another Glorious Battle For The Kingdom zijn meest uitgewogen en luisterfijne plaat tot nu toe gemaakt.
Mayfield won in 2010 de publieksprijs bij De Grote Prijs van Nederland, verraste in 2011 met alom geprezen debuutalbum The Many Colored Beast en stond zelfs bij De Wereld Draait Door. Nu zegt Case blij te zijn dat de hype sinds die eerste plaat een beetje is weggetrokken en hij gewoon lekker zijn gangetje kan gaan.
Dat doet hij zeker.
De singer-songwriter besloot voor de opnames van zijn derde album te breken met platenmaatschappij PIAS en alles onder zijn eigen nieuwe label Hormone uit te brengen.
Grote concerten geeft hij liever niet, in plaats daarvan deed hij onlangs een rondje langs diverse kerken in ons land om zijn laatste baby te promoten.
Eigenzinnig dus en toch heeft Case Mayfield met Another Glorious Battle For The Kingdom zijn meest toegankelijke verzameling liedjes tot nu toe uitgebracht. Bovendien is de instrumentatie op het album rijker en Mayfield’s zang aangenamer. Prachtig is de flow in het album, bijvoorbeeld hoe het instrumentale Chinup de inleiding vormt voor het duistere My Lie Is Bigger. Hoogtepunt is Close Enough, dat gewoon foutloos in elkaar zit.
De viool komt op het juiste moment, Case houdt op de juiste momenten zijn mond en de drums en gitaar vullen elkaar perfect aan.
Andere mooie liedjes zijn zonder twijfel Rumble, de titelsong en Seriously. Maar zoals gezegd, de hele plaat is prettig.
Case kan en mag nu echt groter worden, de vraag is of hij het zelf wil?

The Elvis Brothers - Now Dig This (1992)

The Elvis Brothers were a rock/pop trio (and sometimes quartet) that got its start in Champaign, Illinois in 1981, and were "staples of midwest clubs and theaters from the early 80′s through the early 90′s".
The members were Rob Elvis (guitar, vocals), Graham Elvis (bass, vocals) and Brad Elvis (drums). The band released two albums with Portrait/Epic Records: Movin' Up in 1983, and Adventure Time in 1985.
The band lost their record deal when Portrait was closed in 1986. The original trio re-united in 1992 and released an album called Now Dig This on Recession Records.

Back when rockabilly was making some waves with Shakin' Stevens, the Blasters and Rocky Burnette, the Elvis Brothers was in the mix with a pop/rock/rockabilly hybrid sound. I have the band's two major label releases on vinyl, but can't get them on CD, even though I consider them essential. I even saw Dick Clark put one of their songs up against another band on "American Bandstand," where dancers rate the songs.

Now Dig This was their third and last album, released in 1992 by Recession Records, this album represented a return to the original line-up. The band had undergone some personnel changes and then broken up after being dropped by Portrait Records but they reunited to record this album and then re-issue their first two albums. The album was recorded at the Chicago Music Complex and was produced by Rob and Graham Elvis, with Jay O'Rourke of The Insiders handling the recording.

In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles is the fifth compilation album in the In Search of Sunrise series mixed by Dutch trance producer and DJ Tiësto, released on April 25, 2006 in the Netherlands.
It was mixed while Tiësto was on holiday with his friend BT in Los Angeles in February 2006.
In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles consists of songs that are mainly from the progressive trance or progressive house genre of electronic dance music.

Tiesto’s mix, In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles is his obvious 5th chapter in the making of his In Search of Sunrise compilations. In this 28 track adventure in the world of trance, it has a spacious range of genres that circle from uplifting trance to euphoric trance to deep trance to progressive trance; all of these are densely covered in distinguishable melodies, marvelous vocals, and promoting lyrics that will help you move forward in life. Tiesto has so far released 7 In Search of Sunrise compilations that have all been such a gigantic effort from the guy, and Los Angeles is no different whatsoever. This compilation, being released in 2006, marks some of his achieving song-choices/mixes to date. It’s a heavenly beauty.

Disc 1 is comprised mainly of inspirational, uplifting, euphoric material as opposed to the 2nd disc which is focused more on deeper, darker, more depressing material. Even though they may be a complete polar-opposite for some, both discs will bring passion to your soul/heart in some way or other. As for the vocal delivery, it’s primarily stapled on the first disc, where it also constituents a large fraction of guest singers. But for the most part, however, Disc 1 is the true gem of it all; its beautiful, hypnotizing, absolutely captivating melodies/basslines that deliver an enchanting aroma that is heavily distinct from the other disc. Even the exhilarating vocal display seems to find its way in your heart somehow, and pierce a needle straight into your skin. Well now, I’m sure there’s possibly countless people located on the earth that will find those “trance-like euphoric vocals” to bring discontent, but the first disc on In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles is a definite exception. At times they may result in cheesiness, but aside that, they will bring heaps of emotion. Another positive on Disc 1 is the organic experience; many sounds of nature, Mediterranean-like guitar strings, and oceans perfectly replicating the actual seaside of Los Angeles (even though it is very brief). If you’ve ever felt an experience or journey vacationing throughout the smog-infested city, then the entire mix/compilation will captivate you fully.

The album opener ‘Malibu Beach’ is the obvious attraction to the organic snippet on the first disc. While it’s a swift, quick opener (being 1 or 2 minutes), it features a taste of Los Angeles; the sound of the beach making its way into a very gentle melody which fades into ‘Colour My Eyes’. The track has its moments with the female vocalist and approachable melody, but it certainly isn’t the best on the first disc.

‘Novacaine’ and ‘Let Me Be’ are the most nostalgic on the 1st side, surprisingly due to the melody. Both melodies on the tracks are magnificent, incredibly tear-jerking, and will easily bring back appreciative memories from your past. ‘Novacaine’ is more renowned for the Mediterranean guitar strings, and ‘Let Me Be’ has a catchy, warm melody with reflective lyrics. Altogether, those two relatively quick songs are the highlights, and among the best on the compilation in general.
Other songs on the first disc like ‘Arise’ fiddle heavily with the reverberation, and ‘People Will Go’ features a blurry melody, and amazingly haunting lyrics.

As for the 2nd disc (just as I explained before), the songs are significantly much darker, deeper, and feature more progression within the tracks. Song length, the tracks are more elongated, complex, and are very time-consuming compared to the 1st disc. As in, you will probably need to sit down and 1v1 with the specific track and examine it more than one time. The material encountered here is (well at least in my opinion), doesn’t quite situate itself with the 1st disc, but nevertheless, it still features some beautiful trance tunes. However, because of the lengthy songs, people may find it simply boring. The most family-friendly tune on the 2nd disc that has a catchy melody and danceable beat is ‘Technophobia’. ‘Irony’ and

‘Helsinki Scorchin’ have the heartrending, gloomy vibe to it and ‘Tales from the South’ has the most shadowy, threatening melody. Truthfully, though, the 1st disc has so much more emotion on it, and is basically much more impressive in terms of song wise than the 2nd disc.

Sincerely enough, this mix is a beautiful blend of trance and is easily one of Tiesto’s best compilations to date. Nearly all tracks here will make you raise your fists up high with joyfulness, or emotionally or physically move you In some shape or form. Between the two discs, they are hardly comparable because of the vastly different styles and librettos that are stumbled upon. In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles is an absolute beauty.

Starting in 1992 with his Austin Skyline debut, there was never any doubt about the debt the Oklahoma raised, Texas based Jimmy LaFave owed to his biggest inspiration Bob Dylan.
From the album title’s riff on Nashville Skyline to numerous covers that have peppered subsequent releases in LaFave’s thick back catalog, he has created a cottage industry of sorts interpreting Dylan songs alongside his own originals.

For better or worse (largely the former), LaFave hasn’t shifted gears much from his first recordings over three decades ago.
A few rustic rockers mesh with lovely, understated melodies, all of which are enlivened by the singer’s scratchy, raw and thoroughly distinctive voice that sounds more like Steve Forbert as they both age. Almost anything from this terrific new batch of rootsy folk-rockers could have been included in any earlier album.

As usual, LaFave is not shy about his influences, including an obscure Neil Young track (“Journey Through the Past”) along with what is by now a de rigueur version of a Dylan gem. For the latter he dips into the bard’s early years for a seldom performed “Queen Jane Approximately” which expands from a stripped down beginning to a full blown finale complete with backing vocals and strings.
But LaFave’s own songwriting talents are as striking as his interpretive skills.
The opening “The Beauty of You” is not only one of his finest spiritually based songs, but a sweet, honest love song that could easily apply to a romantic partner. He adds blues and atmospheric noir strings for the evocative title track that describes and embraces those who live in the “neon glow” of late night jobs, as he has for all these years. Gospel female backing singers bring soul to the regretful mid-tempo “Never Came Back to Memphis,” another one of many highlights that seem to effortlessly drop from LaFave’s pen.

From the swampy J.J. Cale-styled restrained rock of “Dust Bowl Okies” and the Chuck Berry chugging “Trying to Get Back to You” and the exquisitely beautiful “Talk to an Angel,” there are no weak spots throughout this long but never dull 56 minute set.
Those new to LaFave’s singer/songwriter talents can start here, then work back through a history that’s as rich, impressive and frustratingly underappreciated as any in his genre.
