Various - The Official Music Of The 1984 Games is a 1984 compilation album featuring music created for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, with tracks by artists including John Williams, Giorgio Moroder, and Toto, covering instrumental themes and songs for various sports and events.
The album features instrumental pieces and themed songs, with composers and musicians contributing specific pieces for different sports and aspects of the games.
The Review... The sound on this album is mind blowing, full frequency from low to high, right from the opening of the first track, Bugler's Theme from Charge Suite.
The 'Bongs' of the drums will test any good sound system without a doubt.
Two instrumental tracks stand out for me, TOTO's fast moving "Moodido", and Foreigner's thumping "Street Thunder".
Loverboys' "Nothing's Gonna Stop You Now", this rocks!
Christopher Cross and Quincy Jones have some beautiful cuts on this album.
Giorgio Moroder ƒ Paul Engelman, this track feels like it could have been on the Flashdance film soundtrack.
Bill Conti and Philip Glass are top in their class here.
There are a few tracks that can be found on some of the artist's album releases, as with Bob James and Herbie Hancock.
However, one track that most of the fans of film soundtrack forums have threaded that can not be found elsewhere is John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare and Theme".
This album has a bit to offer in all genres of music, which makes for a good compilation of mainstream music from 1984.
It was produced by Jon Peters and Peter Guber, with Jack Elliott serving as producer for John Williams' piece.
