Godley & Creme - Ismism (1981)

"Ismism" is the fourth album by English band Godley & Creme. The album was released in the US under the name "Snack Attack". The album cover originally was in white with the title spelt out via holes in the cover which showed a contrasting colour beneath. Later versions used coloured dots instead of holes. An alternative version of the cover featured a black background. After the debacle that was "Consequences", Godley & Creme's creative peak was captured on their two subsequent albums "L" and "Freeze Frame". Their fourth album Ismism represents the beginning of their descent into mid-career mediocrity, it departs from their usually high standard. This is Godley and Creme at the top of their game. Every song is a pop gem. The layers of sound, the vocals, it is all beautiful. "Under Your Thumb" is an atmospheric piece of storytelling, very ambitious for pop sounds? Yes, but it works. There isn't a dud in the bunch, here. Whereas all of their other albums have ups and downs, "Ismism" is simply one flowing success after another. The album contained two singles "Wedding Bells" and "Under Your Thumb".
