THE WATERBOYS 'Fisherman's Blues' album sessions have been revisited for a brand new 3CD and 3LP Vinyl box set featuring previously unreleased recordings. Almost 400 multi-track tape reels, totalling 150 hours of music, were recorded during the Waterboys' famous Fisherman's Blues sessions of 1986-88.
Among these were 80 tapes with no song titles, just rough notes like "jam" or "unknown."
In 2024 band leader Mike Scott went through most of these, listening to them for the first time since they were recorded, and discovering in the process dozens of tracks the band had forgotten about; lost recordings, some improvised on the spot, others painstakingly worked on, that in many cases equal the quality of those on the original classic 1988 album.
Scott has compiled these into a triple CD and vinyl collection titled THE LOST FISHERMAN'S BLUES RECORDINGS. This fascinating release will gain much attention and will come with a book containing 15,000 words of Scott's own sleeve notes plus lyrics and unseen photos.
Atlantic Rain: The Lost Fisherman's Blues Recordings is a triple-disc collection by The Waterboys.
It features 25 previously unreleased or "lost" tracks unearthed by Mike Scott from the 1986–1988 Fisherman's Blues sessions.
The release includes unreleased originals, traditional folk, Irish jigs, and covers of songs by Bob Dylan, Prince, and The Beatles
The compilation is split into three thematic segments across either 3 CDs or a triple-LP:
Disc 1 (Atlantic Rain): Contains eight previously unreleased studio tracks, including the soul version of "Too Close To Heaven" and "Come Back To Galway".
Disc 2 (Indian Summer): A collection of outtakes, traditional acoustic songs, and covers such as Prince's "When Doves Cry" and Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heavens Door".
Disc 3 (Fisherman's Jam): Features sprawling, ecstatic instrumental freakouts and extended studio jams, culminating in a 13-minute version of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
